When it makes sense
- Every change breaks something else, and nobody wants to touch certain parts of the code.
- You’re about to choose a stack or an architecture and want a second opinion first.
- A framework upgrade keeps getting postponed.
- You inherited a codebase and need to know what you’re dealing with.
Architecture review
I read the code, talk to the team, and look at how the product is built, tested and deployed. You get a written assessment: what works, where the risks are, and what to do first, ranked by effort and impact.
Code rescue
Rescuing a codebase doesn’t mean rewriting it. The approach:
- Safety net first: tests around the parts that matter most, so every change can be checked.
- Stabilize: fix what breaks, remove what nobody uses.
- Refactor in small steps: each one reviewed and shippable, while the product keeps running.
- Hand over: documentation, and a codebase your team can change again without fear.
Stack decisions and workshops
Choosing a framework, a cloud setup, or whether to build or buy is cheaper to get right before the first line of code. After 16 years and more than 40 projects, I’ll also tell you when the simpler option is the better one.
